Kipferl

2021 | 24" x 24" x 40" | Hot-sculpted and handblown glass, linen (Oma's tablecloth), powder coated steel

My Oma was a prolific baker and master of traditional ethnic German recipes. The bread roll she made, known as a kipferl, was a staple in her home. She would bake them weekly, laid on a plate over one of her hand-embroidered tablecloths. After her passing, these seemingly mundane rituals have become precious memories. Since she valued control in the kitchen, she was unwilling to pass these techniques and recipes on to anyone else.
